*Madness does not equate with violence. People who commit heinous acts are first and foremost criminals: BAD. What is called mental illness doesn't automatically make a bad person, as the public appears to believe. The psychiatric survivor movement seeks to decriminalize, destigmatize, and understand "strange" non-violent behavior or emotional suffering, for which the medical-model mental health system (the instrument of exploitation and of public intolerance) only offers the all-encompassing explanation of "chemical imbalance" then uses the bio-manipulation of drugs or electroshock to suppress or abort such feelings and behaviors as undesirable and non-conformist. Thousands of people are being permanently harmed and disabled by this process every year. A goal of the psychiatric survivor movement is to end the enforced encarceration, forced drugging and electroshocking of non-violent, law-abiding people. Psychiatry needs to be returned to being a medical practice of mutual consent between the treaters and the treated.
