Psychiatry is portrayed by the press and media as a branch of medicine, as an ultrascientific enterprise which subscribes to the rigorous regimen of empiricism. Magazines and periodicals regularly publish psychiatric articles replete with esoteric references to neurotransmitters and which include color MRI images of brains. The shocking truth is that psychiatry has utterly nothing to do with science, brains, medicine or color MRI images and that these references are mere window dressing to give psychiatry respectability and conceal its real nature. Psychiatry is actually a religion.
Religion is the process of according faithful devotion to an ultimate reality or deity. Unlike science which requires the measurement of observable phenomena and the testing of hypotheses, religions are based on the authority of charismatic religious leaders and belief. Religions monopolize the ordination of their priests and typically couch their sacred writings in obscure language not readily understandable by the uninitiated or ignorant. Religions are self-evident and require uncritical acceptance by their adherents.
Psychiatry's priests are psychiatrists. People believe them and their pronouncements because they possess elaborate educations and diplomas and claim to be the representatives of the medicine and science which has wrought such miracles as the eradication of infectious disease and the unraveling of the human genome. Psychiatry's bible is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and its language is medical Latin and Greek. It is heresy for a psychiatrist to suggest that behavior is not an illness and hence not "treatable." Psychiatry and therapeutism is the dominant religion of modern America. Denial of the "truths" of psychiatry is officially declared to be a symptom of "mental illness" which subjects the heretic to correction by the psychiatrist/priest.
Upon the founding of our Republic, the Forefathers, heeding the bloody history of religious persecutions in England and Europe, saw fit to keep separate Church and State. The states refused to ratify the new Constitution without a Bill of Rights which required, inter alia, that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This was such an important prerequisite to adoption of the Constitution that it was made the First amendment to the Bill of Rights.
The government officially embraces and supports the enterprise of psychiatry. Almost every state now utilizes involuntary commitment and the insanity defense. Public schools enthusiastically employ psychiatry to "treat" their recalcitrant pupils. Congress appropriates billions of dollars yearly to fund every manner of psychiatric enterprise. The American press and media are saturated with wild adulation of the claims and pronouncements of psychiatrists on every imaginable subject.
I have been incarcerated for a decade in a building called a mental health center. My foreign psychiatrists declare my refutation of their claims to be the symptoms of "mental illness" for which they are justified in continuing to "treat" me via incarceration and attendant barbarities and dehumanization. They are allowed to persecute me for rejecting their religion and embracing my own religion of Christianity. They publicly tell the press and media they are incarcerating me because I refuse to believe in "mental illness." They claim my denial of the reality of "mental illness" (or that there could consequently be any "treatment" for "it") is a particularly virulent specie of the same.
Jihad is an Arabic term that means holy war, a war waged on behalf of a belief. Psychiatry's incarceration and torture of "infidels" who refuse to bend their knees to the religion of psychiatry is nothing short of a such a jihad. Insofar as psychiatrists use incarceration, dehumanization, chemical mutilation and torture against the innocent, they are little different from those Islamic fundamentalists who recently attacked innocent Americans for rejecting the religion of Islam in favor of their own religions.
Psychiatry could not exist and continue to garner state sanction if its true nature were to be widely realized. That's why it must continue its mendacious and cowardly concealment behind the masks of "science" and "medicine."
